 1) Margery, englische Schriftstellerin, * Salisbury 1905, ✝ 14. 3. 1991; schrieb ab 1930 humorvolle, spannende Unterhaltungsromane mit psychologischem Hintergrund sowie Erzählungen und Kinderbücher (z. B. die von W. Disney verfilmten Geschichten um Bernard und Bianca).
 
Werke: Romane: The nutmeg tree (1937; deutsch Die vollkommene Lady); Cluny Brown (1944; deutsch Das Mädchen Cluny Brown); Something light (1960; deutsch Liebe auf den letzten Blick); In pious memory (1967; deutsch Witwe bis auf Widerruf); Summer visits (1978; deutsch Cotton Hall hat immer Gäste).
 
 2) Phillip Allen, amerikanischer Molekularbiologe, * Falmouth (Ky.) 6. 6. 1944; seit 1974 Professor am Center for Cancer Research des Department of Biology am Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge (Massachusetts); erhielt für die unabhängig von R. J. Roberts gemachte Entdeckung des mosaikartigen Aufbaus der Gene, die aus codierenden, d. h. in Eiweiß übersetzten Bereichen (Exons) und dazwischenliegenden, nicht codierenden Bereichen (Introns) bestehen, gemeinsam mit diesem 1993 den Nobelpreis für Physiologie oder Medizin.
 
 3) William, schottischer Schriftsteller, * Paisley 12. 9. 1855, ✝ Castello Maniace (Sizilien) 14. 12. 1905; Literaturkritiker; verfasste unter seinem Namen Naturlyrik (»Romantic ballads and poems of phantasy«, 1888), Romane und Biographien (»Dante Gabriel Rossetti«, 1882; »Life of Percy Bysshe Shelley«, 1887; »Life of Heinrich Heine«, 1888; »Life of Robert Browning«, 1890). Unter dem Pseudonym Fiona MacLeod, das erst nach seinem Tod enthüllt wurde, schrieb er ab 1893 romantisch-mystische Prosa (»The sin eater«, 1895; »Wind and wave«, 1902, deutsch »Wind und Woge«), Dramen (»The immortal hour«, 1900) und epische Gedichte über irisch-keltische Themen.
